4 weeks after second dosage of sulphur 200c

Xuan Xuan’s condition has improved slightly over the last 2 weeks. Although she is still scratching and licking her paw and legs frequently, it is slightly better than 2 weeks ago. But definitely not as good as before she started the 200c.

(Note: Click here to jump back to “Part 1” in this series.)

Her scratching doesn’t injure her in any way if she wears a t-shirt. The only obvious thing is that hair has grown all over except under the armpit where she scratch and on her legs where she bites.

Do you want to wait for one week to make it 5 weeks before we give her another dosage? At this point in time, the improvement really seems very slight. It is only when I compare over the weeks that I realized there is indeed improvement.

4 weeks after second dosage of Sulphur 200c
Hi Wei Ling,
Xuan Xuan looks fantastic!! Her skin is so much better and she has much more hair than in the previous photos that you submitted. It has been 8 months since she started with homeopathic treatments and supplements. In the beginning, I was not sure how well she would respond since her immune system had been SO suppressed with conventional drugs. But she has come a LONG way!

I realize that you are still concerned because she is still itching. As long as her itching and scratching is not causing her to bleed and causing more irritation of her skin, I am not worried about it. She still has more healing to do over the next year, and during the winter months it may be a bit cooler and more comfortable for her.

I think that it would be best to wait longer before giving another dose of the Sulphur 200c. Do not become impatient with the healing process. It will take time to restore her health after all of the vaccinations and conventional drugs that she was given.

Keep me posted on the hair loss around her eyes. As she continues to heal, the ?direction of cure? is from top to bottom, from front to back and from the inside to the outside. Therefore, she should improve first on her head and face, and her tail and feet will be the last to grow hair and stop itching.

Send me an update in two weeks, about the hair loss around her eyes.

Please keep us posted by coming back to this page and clicking the ‘click here to add your own comments’ link below.

by: Wei Ling

Hi Dr Tillman,

Xuan Xuan has been rather itchy this week. She seems to be scratching most of the time if she is not sleeping- either scratching her underside, back of her front legs, biting her tail, rubbing her eyes or scratching her forehead. These scratching doesnt really cause bleeding except once in a while, her underside has few red lines. The only visible thing is tt she is loosing more hair around her eyes!

I tried to spray aloe vera juice on her more open and also massage her with coconut oil 1-2hrs before bathing. She doesn’t sleep through the night but wakes up in the middle of the night n start scratching.

The other noticeable thing is tt there are some new grown hair that is fizzy. Is that her undergrowth hair? Previously all her new grown hair since she started on holistic medicine has been silky and curly. These new growth are a little rough m fizzy.

Will update you in a week

Hi Wei Ling,
September 26, 2011
5 Weeks after second dosage of Sulphur 200c
You have mentioned some interesting symptoms of Xuan Xuan:
Waking from Sleep to scratch
New hair growing back in frizzy and rough
Hairloss around eyes
And her ongoing itching anytime that she is awake.

This may indicate that Sulphur is NOT the correct remedy. But it may also be that she has been suppressed for SO long with conventional medication, that even the correct remedy will take a much longer time to improve her condition. Acting in haste will not be to her benefit. If she is not causing bleeding, or more damage to her skin as long as she wears a T-shirt, then we should wait longer.

Give her Rescue Remedy as needed if she wakes up at night. Apply Rescue Remedy to the area that she is itching, to help calm the skin.

Send me an update in a week.

Hi Dr Tillman,

Xuan xuan’s itch is slightly lesser this week n she doesn’t really smell too. She also sleep well and doesn’t lick as much.

She seems to scratch her face less but still scratches her armpit and underside. With this slight improvement, could we continue to observe or give her a second dosag?

6.5 weeks after 1st dosage of Sulphur 200c

Hi Wei Ling,
Yes! This is very good news, and it would be best to wait for two more weeks. It sounds like there is continuing to be SLOW improvement, but it indicates that Xuan Xuan is still improving!
1. Itch is slightly less this week
2. She does not smell much
3. She is able to sleep well, without waking up to scratch herself
4. Scratching her face LESS but still scratching her armpit and underside.

(This is following Hering’s Law of Cure, in homeopathy when the body heals, it does so from top to bottom, from front to back, and from inside to outside.) So, her face is healing first, before her body.

Xuan xuan is doing VERY well, especially considering the huge amount of suppressive drugs she was taking at the beginning of the year!! It is therefore, understandable, that she is only able to heal slowly. Be patient.

It would be best to wait longer before repeating the remedy.

20 October 2011

Hi Dr Tillman,

Xuan xuan’s condition this 2 weeks has been relatively the same and has stablized. Compared to the time before she started the 2nd dosage, she is more itchy. She scratches her armpit n bites her leg often but without causing injuries. Compared to her condition in the photo, she now has some hair growing on her leg but less hair around the eye.

Xuan Xuan finished her bottle of salmon oil. I’ve flaxseed oil at home. Is it possible that I give tt to her instead of salmon oil?

Is it time for a third dose?

9 weeks after 2nd dosage of Sulphur 200c.
Hi Wei Ling,
yes, it sounds like the improvement has become too slow now. It is time to give a third dose of Sulphur 200c.

It is better to supplement with the fish oil instead of the flaxseed oil. Both contain Omega 3 fatty acids that are beneficial to decreasing inflammation, and help the hair coat become shiny and glossy. But it seems that dogs are able to absorb the fish oil BETTER than they can absorb the flaxseed oil. Possibly because the fish oil is an ‘animal’ source, while the flax seed is a plant source, and since dogs are carnivores they are meant to utilize animal sources more efficiently.

Nov 20, 20114 weeks after 3rd dosage of sulphur 200c
by: Wei Ling

Dear Dr Tilman,

The first two weeks after taking her third dosage, Xuan Xuan saw some improvement. However, last two weeks her condition is relatively the same.

Thick hair has grown on all parts of her body except her legs and armpit and around her eyes and nose. Hair in these area are as thick as when she was below 1.5 yrs old. She hadn’t had such thick hair since she started to itch since. And because she doesn’t scratch these area, it doesn’t matt up even though her hair is rather long now.

She has been very specific about her scratching. She scratches only her armpit, bites only her legs. The condition now is still not as good as before the 200c started. She still scratches once she is not sleeping n not distracted by food or toys.

She is having a slight ear infection on her left ear. She seems to scratch a bit three days ago n I can see some sticky brown stuff making her hair in her ears stick together. I’ve used ear cleaner when she bathe n baby oil and cotton stick to clean away the brown liquid inside and it seems she had stop scratching and no more smell this two days. I assume it is clearing.

Please let me know what to do next.

Back in March 2011, you said that she had an ear infection only once when she was about 4 months old. It is not unusual that when treating homeopathically, that ‘old’ symptoms will re-appear. I suspect that may be happening now. It would be best to wait another week, to make sure the ear problem is completely cleared. I think that it may be time to increase to a higher potency of the Sulphur. Are you able to obtain a 1M potency? If so, then she should have a dose in one week, provided her ear is back to normal.

by: Wei Ling

Dear Dr Tillman,

Xuan Xuan’s ear infection has cleared up. Sorry for asking. But may I delay administering sulphur 1m? I bought the 1M dosage during last shipment?

Firstly, I’ll be away on holiday in one and a half week’s time for a period of two weeks. Xuan Xuan will be deposited with a friend of mine who used to have dogs. From previous experience, usually the first dosage of an increased potency will a greater reaction from her and she’ll itch quite badly. I hope to be around to monitor that.

Secondly, I’ll be sending her for grooming this coming week as her hair is now covering her eyes and irritating her especially after food. Usually she will be itching after the grooming and I hope to seperate the grooming and the administration of an increased potency so as to monitor how much itch is caused by each.

Will I be able to administer one more dosage of 200c since after the 3rd dosage, she is still showing improvement after administering? Will administering 1M speed up her process of fighting the itch?

Hi Wei Ling,
5th Week after 3rd DOSE of SULPHUR 200c

Yes, you can delay the administration of the Sulphur 1M. In fact, if she is still showing improvement from the last dose of Sulphur 200c, then you should not give another dose of anything.

With ongoing improvement in response to a remedy, any repetition will interfere with the action of the previous dose. You must wait until there is no longer any ongoing improvement.

Send me an update in 2 weeks after you return from holiday, and after she has been groomed, so that the major part of her itching and scratching should be subsiding. You are correct that giving an increased potency may cause an aggravation, and in Xuan Xuan’s case, an increase in her itching. But DO NOT repeat any remedy at this time.

Nov 25, 2011Clarification
by: Wei Ling

Hi Dr Tillman,

Just to clarify. Xuan xuan has stopped improvement after her 3rd dosage. Her improvement was significant for the first 2 weeks after the dosage but not for the past 2-3 weeks. But for the last 3 dosage of 200c, after each dosage, she has shown improvement. So I was thinking whether she can take another dosage of 200c.

Nov 28, 2011My Online Vet Response for: Red dots under dog’s armpit area with black scaly looking skin without hair (Part 4)
by: Dr. Carol Jean Tillman

Hi Wei Ling,
For Clarification, I will rephrase your question to make sure that I am understanding correctly.

Each time that Xuan Xuan receives a dose of Sulphur 200c, she will improve for 2 weeks or so. Then the ‘effect’ or action of the Sulphur 200c wears off, and her improvement stops or levels off.

And by one month or 5 weeks after the dose, it seems that she will need a ‘new’ dose of the 200c. If my evaluation of the situation is correct, then what I am interpreting is that the 200c potency is not HIGH enough. If she were truly improving at the 200c level, then the pattern we would see would be that after each dose she improves for a LONGER and LONGER period. So, if we gave her the first dosage of 200c, she might improve for one month. Then the second dose of 200c, she might improve for 2 months, and after the 3rd dose, she improves for 3 or more months or actually return to normal, with no more itching at all!! In some cases, after 6 months or a year, she might relapse, in which case one more dose of the Sulphur 200c would return her back to normal again.

But with the pattern of improvement you have described where she needs to repeat the remedy after the same length of time, it indicates a higher potency is needed. Of course, since she is to be groomed, and you have plans to leave on a holiday, I agree that giving her a higher potency is not a good idea at this time. Therefore, it would be best to delay the next dosage, until you have returned, and you will be able to monitor her response to a higher potency, of Sulphur 1M.

Any questions? I hope that I have interpreted your question clearly.

Dear Dr Tillman,

Yes yes! You interpreted it correctly and thank you for your explanation that enables me to understand how the medicine should work.

I’ve decided to give Xuan Xuan her first dosage today and only send her for grooming early next week before I fly off for a 2 weeks holiday. If not she will have a gap of 4 weeks.

Thanks again for your patient explanation.

First Dose of Sulphur 1M

Ok, thank you for keeping me posted! I will record November 28, as the date for her 1st dose of Sulphur 1M. Hopefully, she will not have too bad an aggravation. If she is miserable, scratching so much that she is causing herself to bleed, then as a LAST resort, you can give her a lower potency of Sulphur as an ‘antidote’ to give her a little relief. It will help to disrupt the influence of the higher potency.

But if you are able to bathe her in some cool water, with an oatmeal shampoo, and towel dry her and apply aloe vera juice to her red skin, and/or Rescue Remedy (diluted) to the irritated areas, something to give her a bit of relief until the worst part of the aggravation has ended, that would be preferable to the antidote. I worry that a lot of the improvement we have gained, may be lost, with the antidote.

Dec 01, 20113 days after 1st dosage of Sulphur 1M
by: Wei Ling Dear Dr Tillman,

Wanted to give you a quick report! The progres for the past 3 days has been very significant!

On the first day, it was quite bad. She is scratching non-stop. Her entire underside is full of little red dots. And she stinks! She bites her feet too. Her underside has slightly less hair after a day of scratching.

Yesterday, I brought her for a slow jog for near to 2km. She was tired and slept instead of scratch 🙂 Still scratching but lesser.

Today, she is scratching very little! And her energy level seems to be quite high these two days – playing her toy on her own without anyone initiating. The improvement every day is so significant!

For the past 2 days she still hides in her “kennel” to sleep though. She only sleeps inside when she is itchy. Cos she can scratch and bite without being noticed.

I’ll keep you updated on her progress.

Dec 10, 20112 weeks after 1st dosage of Sulphhur 1M
by: Wei Ling

Dear Dr Tillman,11 December 2011 (Sunday)

It’s nearly two weeks after Xuan Xuan’s first dosage of Sulphur 1M. The observation over the two weeks are as follows:

On the first two days, there was aggreviation and she was scratching quite a bit. On the scale of 1-10 of itchiness (9 being the period where she scratch till entire palm size bleeding shown in Part 2), I would say she is about 6. Not too bad.

But her improvement was so significant over the first 7 days. She was improving tremedously, scratching less and very happy and active, playing her toys without anyone intiating.

Last monday (8th day) when I send her for grooming, she didnt even scratch at all for the rest of the day when she came back. I am plesantly surprised by this. Firstly, because previously grooming used to aggreviate her skin and she’ll scratch quite a bit. Secondly, that she can stay scratch-free for entire half a day!

But this only last about one day. The next 2 or 3 days, her scratching starts coming back again. Firstly in the morning, the moment she wakes up she will scratch continuously for about 3-5 minutes before settling down. Then she started scratching specific areas a few times a day. For example, she’ll scratch her right armpit continuously on Wed or Thu, despite applying aloe vera juice and flower essence. She started bitting her tail and her feet too. When she start on a particular area, she will persistently want to bit it till its bare but not to the extend of bleeding.

Next few days till now, it is back to general scratching throughout the day. Itch level about 4? Maybe slightly better than before this dosage.

This is a lot of observation for two weeks. How do I interpret these changes? Does it mean that 1M is working but not long enough to sustain and she needs another dosage? Is it too soon?

I’ll be overseas for the next 2 weeks. I’ll ask my friend to administer the medicine if it is instructed by you 🙂

Hi Wei Ling,
Two Weeks After first dose of Sulphur 1M.
Thank you for the update on Xuan Xuan.

You wrote,
“How do I interpret these changes? Does it mean that 1M is working but not long enough to sustain and she needs another dosage?”

Yes, that is how I interpret these changes. Although, I would have expected her response to be that she had an initial aggravation, and then a gradual improvement over the next several weeks, not quite reaching to a ‘normal’ level, and at that point it would be time to repeat the remedy.

She has had a fantastic improvement, (maybe TOO quick and TOO good!) but now after only 2 weeks, she is starting to relapse. Therefore it is time to repeat the remedy, Sulphur 1M ONE time. I would NOT expect her to have as severe an aggravation as she had the first time. But I cannot tell the future, so I am NOT 100% sure that she will not have a bad aggravation. If you want to wait until you are back from your trip and dose her, you might want to do that. But it would be best to repeat the dose now, before she relapses any more.

If your friend can keep you advised of all the changes that occur, then I can advise you of what to do, even if you are not home.

Dec 27, 20112.5 Weeks after Sulphur 1M 2nd dosage
by: Wei Ling

Dear Dr Tillman,

27 Dec 2011

I deposited Xuan Xuan at my friend’s place two weeks ago for a 2 weeks holiday.

According to her, she was very itchy the first two to three days after the medicine. She literally scratch through the night. After that, she was still itchy but at least she slept through the night without scratching.

I’ve been observing her after I brought her back. I tried not to jump to any conclusion as the stress of change of environment might have caused her to itch too?

For the past few days since last friday, the following was my observation:

1. She is indeed itchy but not similar to previous way of itching.

2. She is scratching her body less. Usually when she wakes up in the morning, she’ll scratch her armpit and body and a few other times during the day not at very frequent interval.

3. She is biting her feet, base of her tail and private parts a lot!!!! The entire feet and base of her tail is now red with very little hair. Even after a spray of aloe vera, she’ll start to itch after a while.

4. She has not been very cheerful and looked quite gloomy. She’ll try to find corners in the house to hide away from me to bite her feet and tail. Whenever she is near me and I will shout at her for biting, she’ll give me a very sad expression.

5. She has not been very eager to go outdoor – not running very fast when she is off the leash in the park, eager to go home.

6. She also sticks closer to me all the time especially at night. She gets especially jealous and upset when I carry my nephew yesterday (which she is previously quite ok). Some part of her body must touch my body when she sleep. That may not be anything got to do with the medication but may be due to the seperation anxiety due to my trip.

Please let me know your analysis whether the observation shows that the Sulphur is working and what should I do next.

If there is any homopathic medicine that you might want to move onto, please let me know in advance so that I can order from overseas as the delivery will take weeks to arrive to Singapore.

Thank you very very much for the advice and help todate!

Merry belated Christmas and a Happy New Year!

by: Dr. Carol Jean Tillman 2.5 Weeks after Sulphur 1M 2nd dosage

December 27, 2011

Hi Wei Ling,
It may be that the second dose of Sulphur 1M was given too soon. (Only 2.5 weeks after the first dose.) But your report that she is itching her body LESS and her feet, tail and private areas MORE, is a GOOD sign!

In Hering’s Laws of Cure, healing occurs from front to back, from top to bottom, and from inside to outside. Xuan xuan seems to be responding well. Although, I do not want her to make her feet, or tail or any other area bleed from too much itching/chewing. Therefore, use the aloe vera and Rescue Remedy as often as necessary to calm her skin. Especially, the rescue remedy. Since she may have some mild issues with abandonment since your trip. It may be better to use not only on her skin but in her drinking water too. (Use the ‘diluted’ Rescue Remedy, 20 drops into a 2 or 4 oz spray bottle of Spring Water). Another Bach flower essence that be combined with the Rescue Remedy, is Holly. You can add 20 drops of Holly to the Spring water and use with the Rescue Remedy. Holly is good for jealousy.

Are you able to give her a ‘Kong Toy’ stuffed with food for a treat, to distract her when she gets in a corner to itch? That may also reassure her that she has not been abandoned. You wrote, “not been very cheerful and looks quite gloomy….She also sticks closer to me all the time especially at night. She gets especially jealous and upset when I carry my nephew yesterday”

It sounds like she is having some emotional issues since you have returned from your trip. Use the Rescue Remedy plus Holly ‘Bach combination’ as often as needed on her skin, and at least two times daily in her drinking water, over the next two weeks.

Then send me an update about the middle of January, sooner if she is getting worse. I do not anticipate any change to a new remedy at this time.

Take care and Happy New Year to you too!
